He might have been a Morton fan as well, but he was a Celtic supporter and had an enormous love for Celtic

He was indeed - a good man and a sad loss to fitba: Requiescat in Pace

The banner- shows the depths that the huns will turn to.
The wording was
"Tommy turns but Johnny Burns"

Don't confuse protestants wie huns.
Though I am pleased to see an alternative reference to the origin of Taig or Teague-thanks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

BTW- I have Charlie and the Bhoys Version of Johnny Doyle
Lyrics
And it's naw in the song.

Johnny himself- I'm a Morton fan, but I saw Johnny play - he was a delight, I remember Johnny's death and the Orange scum's banner- do you remember what it said?

It's not on the lyrics, but I can send you a version of Johnny Doyle where they do change bits and something they change is...

"And Johnny Doyle told me, not long before you died
I live for Glasgow Celtic and the Tim Malloys"
(Changes underlined)

I can prove it by sending you a copy of the song if you wish, so my source is also official. I guess we misunderstood each other there and we might both be right.

But if he sings about Celtic and the Tim Malloys, it means that Chalie and the bhoys don't care being called Tims, and trust me, me myself as a Tim, I've called my self and many mates Tims many times. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The thing that hits me the most is the way all this copyright crap only really benefits the label companies and not really the bands.

In music the copyright issue is a difficult one, but when we talk about another publication, (I include music here too in a way), I wouldn't like to see my work being taken and someone claiming to be his.

I have to say that I do greatly (Even though not always) respect copyrights, not because I fear being fined or prosecuted, but simply as a respect to the author of the publications.

PS: Gary Og are you in anyway related to Eire Og? Just wondering because scottishgizmo's comment here. If you are, congratulation!! yous are class.

Paddy ya rogue. it's a generic name used by the Huns for all Catholics. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The Orange NI term Taig, is of course a corruption of the Gaelic for Tim.

Lies it's not, and Taig comes from the Irish 'tadhg' which is the old Irish name for poet.

Protestants might like to call us Taigs and Tims, but we call ourselves that too, and I don't know why should it be offencive.

Tell me, why is it on the lyrics of the Johnny Doyle song then?

Regarding the "money issue": What about all/some Cairde giving some amount to save the site from being shut down?

Brilliant Idea, I even propose something, provided everyone pays a wee bit and the prices are covered, I will even offer myself a voluntary, giving my PayPal account, and taking financial responsibility!!

I am not a regular on this site even though I would love to if my tight timetable allowed me to, sad to see this site closing down.

QUOTE(Charlotte @ Dec 19 2005, 10:36 AM) *

Why not just ask for the authorizations of all these singers? It would be completely legal then. And sure we can still keep all the traditional stuffs (the really old ones) as nobody owns the copyright. You should also check the date of creation of some songs. I know that according to laws, after a certain number of years (to be counted in decades though), a song falls into the public domain.

Plus we can still hold the forum. I don't think Republican opinions are copyrighted.

Think it's 50 years after the copyright holder's death, somewhere round there anyway!!

We all have busy lives (mine too) but we cant just let this site go. I havent time to maintain it much like my own website. If this site goes down, I will feel like I lost many very close friends. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) There must be an answer........ Anyone?

Whatever... Fellas, let's keep stayin' in contact... I can start a forum at my web-site for keepin' us togeather...

Sign me up, let me know by posting it here or PM me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) but it would be brilliant to keep this site alive!!

Yes you are absolutely right, we are the Tim Malloys!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

And Johnny Doyle was a hero!!

Why are we called Tim Malloys?

The theory is, (At least that is what I've been told) that there used to be a Catholic gang that called themselves 'Tim Malloys' from the Calton area of Glasgow in the early 1900's

I believe they called themselves this because their leader and founder was called Tim.

Apparently the nickname given to rangers supporters "billy boys", does not come from 'King Billy' as first thought.

This name comes from an infamous Protestant razor gang in Glasgow's east end in the late 1920's. The name Billy comes from the gang's founder Billy Fullerton, not From William of Orange.

COME ON THE HOOPS!!

I made a bet on the Wednesday 9 November for Celtic to beat rangers 2-0, I can't remember the odds, but I got it.

Next Saturday the 19 November I stuck a 5 bet on Celtic to beat rangers 3-0 at 12/1 getting 65 back.

God I love when you get your bets paid out, and God do I like to see Celtic beat rangers (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

QUOTE(clogher republican @ Jun 15 2005, 07:49 PM)
firstly there is no need to apologize to me paddy because you havent done anything insulting or offending to me and i hope i havent done the same to you.

Yes there is a need to appologize, I did answer stupidly withouht really, reading what you ment.

I don't like people with the same beliefs and targets (Even though this might be approached differently) to fight, and i did fuelled the argument, which is not wrong as I will keep challenging people with different views, however I would like this to be purelly opinions and arguments with good humour, I don't want to have republican enemies, no time for it.

No you haven't done nothing to me, and you are welcome to the forum, you will definitelly bring good knodlege and understanding of the troubles to it.

QUOTE
my post was not intended to mock anyone's beliefs or otherwise and i dont think i have in either posts because my dislike and my contempt is completely reserved for the "former" revolutionary republican party provisional sinn fein not their support although i do wonder why people vote for them nowadays.
I do understand this and you are allright.

QUOTE
i personally have voted for provisional sinn fein pre g.f.a in the past when they had good republican candidates who didnt have to dictate and repeat all that adams had to offer but now i cant even look at this party on tv and i tell any provisional sinn fein candidates or their canvass team to get off my property at once for fear of losing my temper.

QUOTE
who didnt have to dictate and repeat all that adams had to offer
I understand what you mean here, a lot of republicans I know, are a wee bit closed minded, and tinted by SF opinions, it pains me to say this, but they are confused and just vote SF without really knowing what it stands for.

Having said this, I think Gerry Adams is a genius.

However I said it before, and I believe SF is my political party however I don't agree with them 100% and there has been some issues on the past that made me doubt.

But you should understand that this is one of the main issues I keep on arguing. As I said to you on my other post.
QUOTE
Just want to say one thing, next time you vote, read ALL manifestos as I have done.

Yes ALL, I even sat down and red the shit Peasly had to offer.
this is not addressed at you personally, but addressed at everyone out there. I don't think much people on this website read Ian Pesley's manifesto, I wouldn't vote them, yet I find it necessary to know what they have on offer.

QUOTE
maybe coming from belfast and the fact that most of the republicans from the city by their own admission would only have been republican after the loyalist pogroms is the reason why these psf people say such things without losing any sleep over the thoughts of their former comrades because these people only want the soldiers and police off their backs and not a 32 county republic.
I perfectly understand you, but I still believe it is the Brittish Oppression that gave reasons for the Irish Republicanism on the first place, if we where to be influenced by the brits, without oppression, and without the years of bigotry they gave us, would you care what the 32 counties where named?? Well yeah sort off, but the brits out and a fair police force, are the step forward to a happy united Ireland.

QUOTE
that is why you have the greatest amount of resistance to psf policy in rural areas like in south armagh, tyrone and the 26 counties because these people have been staunchly republican for generations and in areas like tyrone for example when in the full extent of sas savagery you had the sas killing the volunteers and republicans and the uvf killing their families.
I agree, however I wouldn't put the 26 counties there, the way they treated the IRA and SF for years, proves that polititians down south, are more interested on their political careers than in a united Ireland, reasons like this might be arguable, but however I don't like comparing republicans, we are all on the same boat (Hopefully)

About the UVF and UDA, theres lots of this here too.

QUOTE
finally i dont want to criticise you personally paddy or the decision you took in voting for provisional sinn fein but as i have supported the ira now and in the past i can never ever vote for provisional sinn fein again
It is alright, I am sorry for taking your first post the way I did, and I understand that you don't have a personal problem with me, I understand your reasons for doubting SF.

QUOTE
and i pray for the day when we have a republican party that has the united support of all the republican people although ill probably never see it.
I am up for it, if you ever think of setting one up, just let me know ;)

It is actually good talking to you, and I like seing open minded people making up their own opinions, we might maybe sometime meet up in a pub or somethin :P

if your a provisonal sinn fein supporter paddy and i suspect that you are, then why do you support provisional sinn fein? and what is the difference now between this party and the sdlp because its marginal if anything.
*

Sorry, I never intended my post to sound as if I hated you, I don't hate anyone and I admit that the way I said it was not correct at all.

I sicerelly appologise.

I appologise for taking time on writting this reply as I have been very bussy lately. I could talk about history and give you an extensive answer to your question, however I am going to leave it simple.

The only reason I'll give for me supporting Sinn Fein is that they are simply the only party that i believe represent most of my views accurately. And at the end of the day I am free to use my vote as I want.

The main difference within Sinn Fein and the SDLP is that the SDLP are not republican enough for me, and no, I am not refering to paramilitary association.

I will use this wee story, I personally know someone* who is a Sinn Fein councillor for the Belfast City council. Elected on this elections on the 5th of may.

Now see the way you can vote in order of preference giving each candidate a number?? Well this person told me that people who voted for SDLP where giving DUP and UUP candidates a bigger preference than him/her self.

Being two political parties fighting for the same struggle you would expect some help from each other.

To me the SDLP are a joke, but I don't want to brainwash you or affect your beliefs. Just want to say one thing, next time you vote, read ALL manifestos as I have done.

Yes ALL, I even sat down and red the shit Peasly had to offer.

Make some research, and no matter what, dont come to other forums mocking other peoples opinions or beliefs.

Im not going to talk about football on this forum, not the place, if anyone wants a chat he is welcomed, we have only got ourselves to blame, for giving it away as a present.

:( Havent cryed so much (Literally tears driping from my eyes) sinze seville, the thing is I can take defeat, however rangers didn't win it, we didn't let it slip, we just tossed it away. Im actually depressed, but what can you do.

I feel sorry for Mrs. O'Neill and wish best of luck.

I am glad you like to see the saltire at Celtic Park, I am glad it is there and I am glad of some of the the connections between Ireland and some Scottsmen.

I was just reading throught your post and I am sorry to be late on this reply, but it has to be done.

Does it anoy you to see the soltire at Celtic Park?? or you think of it good.

Because I am confused, first we have the "Plastic Paddy"* issue, and supporters of all clubs round scotland complaining about McGueady playing for Ireland, claiming that wether they like it or not Celtic Supporters are not Irish, but Scottish.

Nothing is said about some Scotsmen that play for Norther Ireland ;)

On the other hand and sometimes, we get people complaining about the saltire at Celtic Park, by saying that we are not Scottish.

(I say we, because I include myself as a Celtic Supporter, however I am an Irishman from Belfast)

Anything related to Celtic no matter what it is, will always be wrong at the eyes of Scottish and Ulster Protestants, we will always be critizised and insulted.

Nothing personal with you, just stating a pattern that i am able to see.

QUOTE(MacIonmhuinn @ May 4 2005, 09:14 PM)
because the Catholics who were supported by the club were not exclusivley Irish.

some of them wheren't even catholics, and history shows that Celtic FC (as with republicanism) unlike Rangers, welcomed and employed people from all religions.

Celtic FC welcome everyone, which in my opinion is a good.

Funnily enough i have heard rangers supporters saying that no catholics at their club was a coincidence, and i have been asked why was there no muslims at celtic park.

pathetic, wat is the ratio in scotland of protestants:catholics:muslims??

i can also remember a protestant famous celtic hero, that had been rejected from ibrox because of his name, it sounded catholic. :P
