Hey Ognahe,

They aren't deleted. The default setting of the board is showing only the posts of the last 30 days. But you can change it. Go to the Speakers Corner Index Site and then scroll to the bottom. There's a box with "From: 30 days". Just change that into "show all", click "go" and there you are (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Hope I could help,
Muireann

QUOTE(Ognahe @ Sep 28 2006, 10:43 AM) *

Hi everyone, interesting site, it's a shame most of the older posts are deleted as their doesn't seem to be much activity recently.

Slan.

Heyho (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

In German phonetics it would be "Markach Skmmel". In English phonetics it would be something like "marcach sca-mul". The "ch" in Marcach is pronounced like the "ch" in the name of the German composer Bach.

Hello Ane,

"Wolkenreiter" does indeed mean "cloud-rider".
In Gaeilge this would be "marcach scamaill".

And Byrne,
"Nal" is also a word for cloud, but rather in the context of clouding in.

Hope I could help,
Muireann

Heyho,

Roidsear knows the chords, but he hasn't got the time to look inside this forum these days.
But you could write him an email and I'm sure he will help you with the chords (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Hello linsara and welcome to the forum (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I couldn't find the lyrics with google either, but maybe this could help you:
http://www.kervarker.org : Site about Brezhoneg including a forum
http://www.alan-stivell.com : The official site of Alan Stivell, mastered by a familiy member. Try to write at [email protected] and you will at least get a reply.

hehe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I found the word "Fries" in my Deutsch-Irisch dictionary, but there was no further explanation.
Only: "Fries - fros".
And now that you say it, I think the wall decoration is rather meant than Friesland (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

But if you wanted to match the phonetic expression of Vries, it would be "Fros" as well, so... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
If I find more I'll let you know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Heyho *wave*

Ryan would be "Ran" (pronounce REE-an) as gaeilge.
Your surname "De Vries" could be rendered as " Fros". "Fros" means "Fries" in Irish, but in my dictionary there is no further explanation what is meant by Fries. But "Ran Fros" looks good and sounds nice, so I would keep it that way (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I didn't find the answer when I first heard the riddle (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Somehow the answer is logical... but, indeed... in a very psychopathic way...

Ehm... somehow... I would participate, but I knew all the riddles up to now...
Am I a psychopath now or rather crazy or do I just have too much time? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

As requested: the translation of "Siil A Rn"

Siil, siil, siil a rn
Siil go sochair agus siil go ciin
Siil go doras agus alaigh liom
Is go dt t mo mhirnn sln

Go, go, go, oh love
Go peacefully and go quiet
Go to the door and fly with me
And may you go safe my darling

Literally, "siil" is "to go" though it is meant here as "come with me".

Hope this helps,
Muireann

I don't know, when the busy old man will find the time to answer - so...
We had a nice day with "Ceol agus Craic" and Guinness and so on... hehe... And most important: he survived celebrating - despite his old age B) :P

And @WeeIrishDevil:
Thanks for saying hello :)

Is mise ars...

After hours of racking our brains  , we finally figured out the chords B)
So ... tadaa ... for all who want to play "Siil A Rn" in the Clannad version: chords see below.
Hope you enjoy it.

Le beannacht,
Muireann

Siil A Rn

--[am]---[G]----[F][G]-[am]
I wish I was on yonder hill
------[C]------[G]-----[F]----[G]
'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill
------[F]---[am]-------[F]-[G][am]
Until every tear would turn a mill
------[am]------[em7]----[F]
Is go dt t mo mhirnn sln

Siil, siil, siil a rn
Siil go sochair agus siil go ciin
Siil go doras agus alaigh liom
Is go dt t mo mhirnn sln

I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel
I'll sell my only spinning wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel
Is go dt t mo mhirnn sln

Siil, siil, siil a rn...

I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them red
And 'round the world I'll beg my bread
Until my parents shall wish me dead
Is go dt t mo mhirnn sln

Siil, siil, siil a rn...

I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
I wish I had my heart again
And vainly think I'd not complain
Is go dt t mo mhirnn sln

Siil, siil, siil a rn...

But now my love has gone to France
To try his fortune to advance
If he e'er comes back, 'tis but a chance
Is go dt t mo mhirnn sln

Siil, siil, siil a rn...

Na nD dhaoibh!

Ok, here's the first request ;)
Yesterday we tried to figure out the chords to the Clannad version of "Siil A Rn", but we're still uncertain with one of them.
Does anybody have the chords to this special version (they play a slightly different one than the one usually found on the internet)?

Go raibh mle maith agaibh,

Na nD dhaoibh,

I joined this forum because I love celtic music. I play the guitar and I'm always looking for new songs to sing. I also write my own songs and poems.
I hope to meet other people with common interests here and I'm looking forward to contribute to the forum.

Beannacht libh,
