Two different versions.. the one by Athenrye is the original "The man from the Daily Mail" I think, and the one by the Brigade is slightly modified (Though I only heard another version by Spirit of Freedom)..(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Anyhoo, here it is:

Now Ireland's a very funny place Sir it's a strange and troubled land
And the Irish are a very funny race Sir every girls in the Cumann na mBan
Every doggie got a tri-coloured ribbon tied firmly to its tail
And it wouldn't be surprising if there'd be another rising
Said the man from the Daily mail

Every bird upon my word is singing "Yoho, I'm a Provo"!
Every hen it's said is laying hand-grenades over there Sir I declare Sir
And every cock in the farmyard stock crows in triumph to Sinn Fein
And it wouldn't be surprising if there' be another rising
Said the man from the Daily Mail

Well the other day I travelled down to Clare Sir I spied in an old boreen
A bunch of silly gooses there Sir dressed in orange white and green
They marched to the German goose step as they whistled Granne Wale
And I'm shaking in me shoes as I'm sending out the news said the man from the Daily Mail

Now the whole place is seething with sedition it's Sinn Fein through and through
All the bhoys are joining local units and the passwords Sinn Fein too
Well the IRA just sent me a timebomb in the mail
And I'm shakin' in me shoes as I'm sending out the news
Said the man form the Daily Mail

Every bird upon my word is singing treble - I'm a rebel
Every hen it's said is laying hand-grenades over there Sir I declare Sir
And every cock in the farmyard stock crows in triumph for the gale
And it wouldn't be surprising if there' be another rising
Said the man from the Daily Mail

Was it correct? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Just came to think of a song with the Irish Brigade: Freedom Fighters Medley. and in one part of the medley there is a bit of a song where they sing something about "englands concentration camps".. and then there's also a bit of the songs Boys of the old brigade and Sean South.
So, does anyone know which the first song is? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

QUOTE(Skibereen @ Nov 8 2005, 08:44 AM) *

Hello (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
There are two things I need to ask. First, does anyone have lyrics to a song called 'Eyes of the I.R.A.' and begins 'Eyes of the IRA, they are upon you, oh Maggy Thatcher dear'

The other thing is: what happened at Killashandra? In 'Black and Tans' there is a verse 'Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away/ from the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra" - but I was unable to find what it was referring to.

The song "The eyes of the IRA" is by Billy Briggs.. Actually I don't know for sure, but when I found it it was tagged Billy Briggs. Add me on MSN if you want me to send it to you. =) [email protected]

And for the question about Killashandra..I'd really like to know what happened there also.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
Anyone has to know something about it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

ehrm... Are ye sure you're in the right forum?
Or have I missed something? In that case, I'm sorry... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Anyway, it sounds like almost every dance/techno song I've heard I think.. Not a very unusual line from a techno song I'd guess... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Could this be correct maybe... But the intro wasn't included in this one..(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

The reason i left Mullingar...Capo 2nt Fret

[EM] I walked through this[D]city a[C]strang[G]er,
In a [F] land I can [C] never call[G]ho[D]me,
I [EM] cursed the sad [D] notion that [C] caused[G]me,
In [EM] search of my fortune to [D] roam.

CHORUS
I [EM] remember that [D] bright april [C] morn[G]ing,
When I [F] left home to [C] travel a-[G]far[D],
But to [EM] work till your [D] dead for a [C] room and a [G] bed,
Is not the [G] geason I [D] left Mullin[G]gar.

Does anyone have the chords or notation for 'An tll' or 'Dhanainn Sgradh' by Clannad? I'd love to learn it on guitar and piano but havn't been able to find notation anywhere.

Go raibh maith agaibh,
Roibeard g

Sorry, no luck finding the chords/notation.. Seem to be pretty rare. Tried Tabrobot, and when the song doesn't show up there I usually give up..(IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
But An tll seems pretty easy.. the song goes in D, if my guitar isn't fooling me..(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Just listen to the song and start with D and you'll figure it out pretty quick.
Otherwise I can give it a shot at the end of the weekend maybe and post it here. =)

Sln
/Fanstyg

In [F] Sackville Street the [Bb] curfew drove the [C] restless [F] inside,
The [Bb] Black and Tans marched [F] up and [Dm] down, the [Gm] moon shone cold and [Bb] bright,

The [F] shot was like a [Bb] whip crack pulled the [C] first man off his [F] feet,
He [Bb] died on bloody [F] cobble[Dm]stones while his [Gm] comrades combed the [Bb] street.
They [F] called up rein[Bb]forcements, woke the [C] people from their [F] beds,
They were [Bb] screaming [F] Get the [Dm] bastard!, but its [Gm] fear was in their [Bb] heads,

They found him in a cellar, he was only seventeen,
Fighting for his country: Dying for the green.
The sergeant dragged him by the hair and beat him to the ground,
Into this young mans body he emptied every round,

Come out and take a look, he cried as he marched his troops away,
They went in stony silence such a prize to have today!
Some knelt and prayed beside him, ah but its too late anyhow,
They said he was a rebel then and hes a hero now,

In 66 this country sang the praises of the dead,
We didnt call them rebels then we used patriot instead,
On every household TV screen we saw how hard they fought,
How they spilled their lifes blood and how freedom had been bought.

The garden gates were opened up to silent motorcades,
Cannons boomed and flags unfurled and solemn wreaths were laid,
Prayers for those departed were called for loud and clear,
For those who had been outlawed ah but that was another year

The veterans stood up stiff and proud, their white hair ruled the wind,
With their pride __________ and thoughts upon their friends,
And bitter wounds burst open, the scars of history,
Went flying into our faces in stark reality,
Just up the road from Sackville Street ah but things are different now,
They said he was a rebel then but hes a hero now.

Along the Falls Road soldiers push - their glances left and right,
Kids of the English working class soldiers overnight,
Tossed into the melting pot of bloody war and strife,
Never understanding and fearing for their lives.

Outside the Glenn Road Brewery a bomb takes two away,
The bombers work is over; hes finished for the day,
The terrorist or the dreamer: the savage or the brave?
It depends who ________ try to catch, his face shown trying to save.

Theres tea and cakes in Downing Street, theres whispers in the halls,
Lets move to cure Rhodesia (?) now our backs are to the wall.
Theres panic down in Leinster House where words are seldom scarce,
Send someone to Glasnevin quick to remember Padraig Pearse!

Once more His crucifixion, it seems a lie somehow
They said he was a rebel then but hes a hero now
Once more His crucifixion, it seems a lie somehow
They said he was a rebel then but hes a hero now
But hes a hero now

Can someone help me out here... This song is sung by a girl, sounds a bit like Seanchai... And the song is to the tune of "The Foggy Dew", but in a slower tempo... Would be really thankful for a little help..=)

Here's the lyrics:

The sun did dawn so grey and cold on Derrys empty streets
The buildings echoed one by one to the sound of marching feet,
But not one soul did speak that day not woman, man nor wean ,
Yet thirteen men will never walk on Derrys streets again.

The people gathered suddenly to march to Gilmour Square
They came in peace to state their case among their own kind there,
But butchers waited there for them with bullet, blood and pain,
And thirteen men will never walk on Derrys streets again.

The tramp of feet across the street was broken by the sound
Of armoured cars and rifle shots, and death was all around.
Some ran to tend the fallen men but by cowards they were slain
And thirteen men will never walk on Derrys streets again.

Let England hang her head in shame now all the world can see,
The day there was a massacre they called a victory,
Let Ireland stand united now and speak our message plain,
That honest men may dare to walk on Derrys streets again.

I'll jump in here and post the Gaelic lyrics to Amhrn na bhFiann, cuz I also want to know the chords of Gary's version. =)

Thanks Gary for the answer =)

But ok... Now my little brain is working hard here...:P
So what does it take to get you here? plane tickets, hotel, a nice pub to gig on of course.. and your gage?
If its not too expensive, then I think it might be very possible to arrange. Got pretty good connections with pub owners around here, so if I only know what demands you have, then Ill definetly check it up right away :D

Oh, and by the way...:P
The tablature or chords for your version of "Only our rivers run free", is it possible for you to post them here?

Maybe a little OT here.. But I just got to ask, since we have the great Gary and Sean (Lyons I guess?) here.
I live in Sweden, and I just wonder if you or any other Irish bands similar to you have any gigs in my little country?
Otherwise I just have to travel a bit to see you... One of my little "just-got-to-do"-things here in life. :D
