LID OF MY GRANNY'S BIN

Joe Mulhearn

As [G] I was climbing into bed

At me [C] poor old granny's [G] side

I looked out the window;

The [C] Brits they had [D] arrived.

The [G] house they had surrounded;

They [C] smashed the front door [D] in.

They've [C] come for to [D] take away

The [G] lid of me [D] granny's [G]bin.

Well she opened up her window

And she clambend down the spout.

Soon her bin was rattling

To call the neighbours out.

She took out her whistle

And blew away like hell

And soon we heard an echo

As the neighbours blew as well.

[chorus]

With a [G] Scream. Bang, Shout.

Rattle up a din.

[C] Let the army [G] know. me Girls,

The [Em] Brits is [D] comin' [G] in.

Now rattle up your bin lid.

Beat the message out.

[C] Get your [G] head down.

Whistle. [D] Bang, [G]Shout!

A Tommy came right upstairs

A rifle in his hand.

She kicked him with her button boots

As down the hall she ran.

Up came another one

His medal for to win

But all he got right on the gob

Was the lid of me granny's bin.

The music rose like thunder

As the bins and whistles played.

The enemy soon retreated.

They knew they'd overstayed.

It wasn't made of silver,

It wasn't made of tin.

But once again it saved us all

The lid of me granny's bin.

The English have the telly,

The radio and press;

To all communications

They've always had access.

But from Pettigo to Bellaghy

From the Bone to Castlefin,

The only way to spread the news

Is rattle your granny's bin.

MEN OF EASTER WEEK (They Were Soldiers Every One)

We [G] remember [D] them with [G] pride,

Those who [C] fought and those who [G] died,

Of braver [C] men, who now can [G] speak

Than the [D] men of Easter [G] week?

[chorus]

They were soldiers every one,

Some with hymn and some with gun,

In the fight for liberty

To make their Ireland safe and free.

Rifle shots and marching feet

Ringing through OConnell street,

And the sea lord looking oer,

Now his eyes will see no more.

Freedom gained and freedom lost,

But each hero paid the cost,

Ours will be their legacy,

Ireland One our sons will see.

I beileve that the new albulm is very lazy. Alrite they put a bit of life into the the song jackets green, however the rest of Shebeeen's songs are recorded live and the songs from the other groups are actual recordings they placed on their own cds. It was just a matter of transfering them. So if ye have the other groups cds, ye are actually paying money for songs ye already have. However it's good to bring old classics like 'blood stained bandage' and 'belfast brigade' back to life!

I never heard this song before, it's not like the Dublin City Ramblers to do contemporary rebel songs

They marched those men in Dublin, and for ireland struck a blow........ (arbour hill)

This flower i found in the Wicklow hills, dew fresh and still sad she (3 flowers, about Micheal dwyer)

I don't give a care if i shoot down police
they are lackys of war never bringers of peace
and i gave up my boyhood to drill and to train
and to play off my part in the patriot game (patriot game)

that ok?
